Vittoria Coffee supports Movember 2008

Cure Cancer Carnivale

Movember is an annual charity event that raises money to benefit men’s health, with a focus on prostate cancer and male depression. Held during the month of November, participants register with a clean shaven face, and have the rest of the month to grow and groom their Mo.

Money is raised with donations of support from work colleagues, friends, family and businesses.

Movember concludes at the end of the month with official Gala parties, mo-office and mo-town parties where participants compete for Man of Movember status.

Money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men’s health issues, thereby increasing early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment. More specifically, money raised is used to fund research into better screening tests, treatments and ultimately finding a cure for prostate cancer, and providing proper information and support to those affected by prostate cancer.

Money raised also goes towards raising awareness about male depression and increasing the information and effective treatment options available. With 2,900 Australian men dying each year from prostate cancer, Vittoria Coffee encourages people to join them in supporting this charitable event.

Vittoria Coffee supports the 2008 Cure Cancer Carnivale Ball

Cure Cancer Carnivale Ball raises over $200k, which contributes to the $1million already funding 14 cancer research projects nationally.

Cure Cancer Carnivale

Dodgem cars, a giant slippery slide, chocolate fountains, huge lolly stalls, roulette and black jack tables, and performances from Australia’s very own Swing King, David Campbell, Burlesque beauty Rachel St James and Latin inspired La Fiesta Sound System ensured this 1950’s Las Vegas inspired Carnivale Ball was one to remember.

Vittoria Coffee proudly continues to support the two eight two eight project in Gulargambone with a donation of $40,000 to assist with the establishment of a commercial kitchen.

Vittoria Coffee is proud to continuously support project two eight two eight. The project has grown dramatically since its inception in 2001. It is exciting to see how much has been achieved and to see the positive effects the project has had on a previously depressed rural community.

Two eight two eight has won several awards and now boasts a cafe, art gallery, craft shop (selling handmade souvenirs & local produce), function centre and a quality catering service. Serving Vittoria coffee, delicious food, movie nights, a secondhand bookshop, library and annual ‘Dinners under the Stars’ all enhance the visitor's experience.

In 2008, the project has grown bigger than anyone ever envisaged and Vittoria continues to assist by donating $40,000 to support the establishment of a commercial kitchen. The commercial kitchen will be used for many purposes; the cafe, catering for functions and events, cookery classes and demonstrations with visiting chefs, and most importantly training for young people, many of whom are indigenous.

It is fantastic to see this small town in rural NSW with a population of 500, develop into a destination where people are now stopping to enjoy what Gulargambone has to offer.

Vittoria Coffee continues its support to The Friends of the Mater Foundation in the form of a donation of $42,306.00 to assist the hospital in acquiring a much needed new piece of equipment for the Endoscopy Suite.

Vittoria Coffee donated $42,306.00 to The Friends of the Mater Foundation for an Argon-Plasma Coagulation Unit (APC) & Electrosurgical Generator for the Hospital.

APC is an electrosurgical technique used for the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding in patients who come to the Mater’s Endoscopy Unit where in excess of 3,900 procedures were performed in 2007 a 25% increase on 2004 figures.

All of the equipment in the Unit has recently been upgraded and the acquisition of the APC will enhance the current technology. Most importantly, it will enable patients to be treated immediately following the investigative diagnostic procedures, thus reducing the need for another hospital admission.

This new equipment was listed as a top priority by The Friends of the Mater Foundation in relation to need, benefit and expansion of the Hospitals services. This generous donation will make a big difference to the care of the patients at the Mater and Vittoria Coffee’s donation is much appreciated by the Foundation.

Vittoria Coffee Silver bean sponsor of Coffee Kids.

Since 2002 Vittoria Coffee has been a sponsor of Coffee kids - a non-profit organization established to improve the quality of life for families who live in coffee growing communities around the world. Vittoria was very pleased to receive a letter of recognition from the Coffee Kids Foundation for our ongoing support to their programs.

Coffee Kids staff work with local community organizations in Latin America to create education, health-care, training, and microenterprise programs for coffee farmers.

Everyone wants to talk about how sustainable coffee is, how it’s organic and whether the coffee is 'fair trade'. However it's the huge dependency coffee farmers have on coffee as their income and that only a tiny percentage of the world’s coffee farming families benefit from 'fair trade' premiums that is the REAL problem.

Ironically income separate from coffee is one of the few true roads towards a sustainable lifestyle for coffee farming families. This is what Coffee Kids is working to achieve.

On the 12th November 2003, internationally acclaimed tenor, Jose Carreras, created a sensation when he gave a charity recital in aid of the Leukaemia Foundation of NSW and the Jose Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation, at the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House. All proceeds from the recital were shared equally between the two foundations.

The major sponsor of the recital was Vittoria Coffee, a family owned company which has long been associated with many community activities, with the focus being on cancer charities.

“Our family has been touched by the experience of Leukaemia, with what I am happy to say has been a positive outcome,” Les Schirato CEO Vittoria Coffee said.

Vittoria Coffee continues support of rural communities.

The Robertson CTC has been set up to provide much needed education, training programs and services for the unemployed, senior citizens, groups and business to help overcome obstacles caused by the isolated setting of the town.

One important service the centre has to offer is internet access – which is not readily available to almost half of the population who don’t have internet access at home. Many CTCs, while doing a fantastic job, are soulless uninspiring places with a room full of computers and little else. Vittoria’s involvement with the Robertson CTC will create a very different, truly enriching cultural atmosphere.

Vittoria’s sponsorship of this centre has the potential to assist with job creation, providing work experience for the area’s youth and will be sustainable in the longer term.
