Welcome to the Family Deus Ex Machina

Deus Bar & Kitchen roared into Sydney recently, a rakish all-day diner alongside the Deus Ex Machina flagship in Camperdown. While the store is known for its custom-made motorbikes and surfboards, the restaurant is naturally devoted to more immediate pleasures. Deus Bar exists in that blurry realm between café and restaurant that we take for granted in Australia. A place where you can savour a coconut and matcha chia pudding for breakfast, dine on eggplants fritters for lunch, and enjoy a roast Bannockburn chook for dinner. Plus, all meals can be accompanied with Vittoria coffee.

In addition to the moreish-style fare is an inspired drinks list by mixologist James Prier. Accompanying their classic cocktails are numerous inventive concoctions. A Le Gigleaur Noir pairs vanilla-infused vodka with Vittoria Organic Blend, a decadent and original cocktail, highly recommended. The Tigers Milk II, meanwhile, combines vodka, raspberry liqueur, chocolate liqueur and coconut milk. The eatery's expansive opening hours, which stretch to the late evening, mean you can even stop by for a cocktail and first-rate bar snacks, like kombucha-pickled cucumbers, and chicken crackling with kingfish.

Floor-to-ceiling windows look out to humming Parramatta Road, but, from inside the space, the machines that hold your attention are the sleek motorbikes positioned around the room. Designers Studio Gram kitted out the handsome interior with an open kitchen, a concrete bar, ample wood and touches of leather. Steering the project are Tom Walton and Andy Ruwald, both of whom have helmed other successful enterprises in Sydney. Looks like they have another hit on their hands. Deus Bar is operating at full throttle.
